Jonas Bergstrom (Sweden)

Dr. Jonas P. Bergström was a Swedish nephrologist and a leading clinical scientist in PD, whose career at Karolinska Institutet and Huddinge University Hospital combined research, clinical innovation, and mentorship. He conducted foundational studies on peritoneal membrane transport, ultrafiltration, and solute kinetics, clarifying mechanisms of sodium and fluid removal and guiding clinical PD prescriptions. Bergström also led translational research linking PD fluid composition and sterilization processes to patient outcomes and conducted clinical trials comparing novel solutions such as amino-acid and dipeptide-based dialysates.
