Ana Elizabeth Figueiredo (Brazil)

I am honored to be nominated to serve as the nurse representative for the ISPD Council. Becoming part of the council will allow me to collaborate with international leaders in the PD community. PD nurses have a pivotal role in educating patients and other health professionals and managing peritoneal dialysis programs; I pretend to work to increase the awareness of the PD community about the value of a well-trained PD nurse while empowering nurses to take their place in the Society. I would propose an ISPD Mentorship program/ scholarships for nurses; encourage nurses to learn how to implant PD catheters, join forces to implement this role with national nursing councils, and determine minimum criteria for nurses to apply for PD catheter insertions. I had the opportunity to serve on the board in the past, and I still have something to contribute to nursing empowerment.
