When a patient is on antibiotics for peritonitis, when is the proper timing to get samples for cultures. How much of a difference is there with obtaining a sample after 1 hour of dwell vs 6+ hours of dwell.

It doesn’t really matter as the patient should be “covered” by antibiotics 24h/24. But it’s probably more important to always repeat the samplings at the same moment in order to allow a good comparison of the WCC results for the interpretation of the antibiotherapy protocol efficiency
