Questions About PD

As far as we know there is not solid evidence to recommend any prophylactic treatment in patients with colonic diverticular disease. It has been recommended (based on low grade evidence) to consume a fiber-rich diet, and pursue physical activity.
While diverticulitis can put a patient at higher risk of peritonitis, having a history of diverticulitis is not a contraindication to initiating PD. Early identification and treatment of an episode will help to reduce the risk of secondary peritonitis, and patients receiving antibiotics for their diverticulitis should receive concurrent antifungal prophylaxis.
