Loop diuretics help to maintain urine output, but have not been shown to maintain residual renal function. To my knowledge, the only available randomised controlled trial on this subject is Kidney Int. 2001 Mar;59(3):1128-33.Role of diuretics in the preservation of residual renal function in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.
