Questions About PD
There is no contraindication for PD patients to lie down on their stomach as long as they are comfortable with it. Some patients might find it discomfort to be in prone position in view of the fullness of the abdomen. Some might be okay with it. Discuss your therapy with the patient and plan a regime that suit the patients’ well.
There is no specific literature on this. However, lying prone can increase intra-peritoneal pressure, and may predispose to leaks. If lying prone is required as part of a rehab program, it would be best to drain the patient of PD fluid prior to this portion of the rehab.
