Questions About PD
We thank you for your question. Septic systems are required when a home/dwelling is not serviced by a municipal centralized sewer system. Unfortunately, there is really no published information on this topic that we are aware of, to advise patients on PD living in a rural area where their home has a septic tank. What we would recommend is that you have your patient check with the manufacture of the septic tank or the management company for the septic tank to see ways the PD waste effluent can be managed and to plan what actions can be taken to avoid any untoward effect on the septic system.
Clearly this is an area that lacks formal information to provide advice to patients on PD living in rural areas on how to best manage the PD effluent when the home is not connected to the municipal sewer system.
