Biopatch Antimicrobial Dressing (made by J&J) is a hydrophilic polyurethane absorptive foam with chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG). Information on the website did not indicate the concentration of CHG. There are no studies to demonstrate the safety of applying CHG chronically to the exit site in the form of a dressing. CHG is cytotoxic in concentrations above 0.005% and therefore has the potential to be extremely damaging to the skin at the site. ISPD does not recommend cyctotoxic solutions to be used at the exit site.
