In reviewing the ISPD guidelines 2010 update I cannot find a rate for exit site infections. I see a center's peritonitis rate should be no more than 1 episode in 18 months. Can you provide me a rate for exit site infection occurences? Thank you.

Please see the response from Dr. Li – the person who led the revision of the guidelines”

Exit site infection in CAPD patients is one type of peritoneal catheter infections which occurs at an incidence of around one episode per 20 patient-months of treatment. [Reference: Szeto CC, Li PKT. Peritoneal Dialysis Related Infections. In Himmelfarb J & Sayegh MH. Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis, & Transplantation. (3rd Edition) Elsevier Saunders, Philadelphia 2010: 446-458 (Chapter 30)]

We did not put this in the paper. We have not come into a consensus of the target exit site infection rate that should be achieved by each centre.
