I am trying to set a protocol to start patients in PD at my institution. I am frustrated because once I insert the catheter the patient may wait 2 weeks before it is used. Where I trained We would start using the catheter at the OR and set the patient to go home already with a schedule. Can anyone lead me to sources or tell me about yours protocols?

I am presuming you are describing new chronic PD patients and not wanting to use it as acute start. It is recommended to leave the catheter for 2 weeks before using to allow it to heal well and avoid leaks. I recommend you look at the ISPD guidelines for access and catheter care, they are available on the website and given clear guielines for new PD catheters.
Acute start regimes are obviously different and low volumes can be used immediately we recoomend reduced dwell times and patient to remain supine if fluid is dwelling for the first 3 days
