I am planning a program for a group PD patient to learn basic swimming lesson or water play activities in a swimming pool. 1.Any advise, share experience. 2. Is there any available guideline and what are the things/precautions that i need to take note of. 2. Is there any special bag specifically for covering the exit site/Tenckhoff or colostomiy bag is just fine?

Swimming in a clean properly chlorinated pool is theoretically possible for PD patients, particularly in those private, uncrowded pools. Patients should have a good and mature exit site, and do the proper exit site cleaning procedure afterwards. The catheter need to be anchored properly ( I usually advise male patients to wear the tight swimming trousers that covers up to umbiical level).

In Hong Kong, as such pools are not easily found, I have recommended my patient to use colostomy bag to protect the exit site with the the catheter and transfer set laid inside.
