I am on Peritoneal Dialysis I stated to have bloody drain bags… I did contact the dr. and I did take the bloodys bags for culture and they can not find any infections and I also had a CT Scan done and they did find a ovarian cyst?? So I went to an OBGYN and he said that there is no way that could be the problem??? well no the Dr. is saying that I have to go back on Hemodialysis which I think is the worst kind of Dialysis and I really was wondering if anyone knew what eles it could possiablly be?? Please any kind of sugg. will be helpful, Thanks!!!

There are numerous potential reasons for blood in the dialysate and most of them are benign. A ruptured ovarian cyst is a well- recognized cause thereof. Your doctor may wish to look at either of the following articles:

Rocklin MA, Teitelbaum I: Noninfectious causes of cloudy peritoneal dialysate. Seminars in Dialysis: 14:37-40, 2001.

Lew, SQ: Hemoperitoneum: Bloody Peritoneal Dialysate In ESRD Patients Receiving Peritoneal Dialysis. Perit. Dial. Int. 2007 27: 226-233.

It should not be necessary for you to discontinue peritoneal dialysis.

Good Luck!
