Ascites by itself does not cause peritonitis, and PD may help control abdominal size because of frequent draining of the abdominal cavity. You will always be guessing as to how much effluent is ultrafiltration and how much is ascitic fluid. You will have to be careful to montor blood pressure, weight, edema etc very closely to manage fluid balance.
