There are two important principles to be kept in mind with regard to antibiotic administration in an APD patient – first, the exchange should dwell for at least 4-6 hours to allow for complete absorption of the antibiotic, and second, if the patient has more than one exchange during the day, it should be the long dwell just before the night time cycling so that the concentrations are the highest before the hgher clearance with night-time cycling.
