About ISPD NAC

The NAC/ ISPD has been formed in order to enhance and promote the highest quality of care for patients receiving peritoneal dialysis, and to encourage collaboration in addressing fundamental issues concerning peritoneal dialysis therapy, in the Region. This is to be accomplished by:

1. Promoting knowledge of peritoneal dialysis in the nephrology community by facilitating a variety of educational activities;
2. Advancing knowledge of peritoneal dialysis through the support and encouragement of peer-reviewed research proposals;
3. Influencing national policy and regulatory directives in order to optimize care delivery to patients receiving peritoneal dialysis and to provide improved resources to the peritoneal dialysis community to assist with self-advocacy efforts.

By-Laws for Constituting the Council for the North American Chapter of the ISPD

1. 1. The 9-member Council will be comprised of:
   • President;
   • President-Elect;
   • Immediate Past President;
   • Secretary-Treasurer;
   • Five members-at-large which will include:
     • At least two members each from United States and Canada;
     • At least one nurse representative;
     • One of the five members will be designated the Research Advisor.
2. 2. It’s a two-year term, starting July 1st. The Secretary and five at-large members will serve no more than two two-year terms.
3. 3. An individual must be a member of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis for them to serve as a member of the Council.
4. 4. At least six months prior to the end of the term, the Immediate Past President will lead the search for renewal of the Council, which will include at least one electronic solicitation of interest from members of the North American Chapter. Following which s/he will propose a slate of nominees for:
   1. 1. President-Elect;
   2. 2. Secretary;
   3. 3. At-large members to the Council for approval.
5. 5. The current members of the Council started their second term in July 2015. For the first renewal, in order to maintain continuity in the organization, no more than two members-at-large may continue for a third two-year term. This is permissible only once.
6. 6. Any changes to the above rules can only be made by a majority vote of the Council at least six months prior to the termination of the term.
