Frances started her nursing career as a registered nurse in Hong Kong in 1983 and become a renal nurse in 1987. Besides local renal nursing training in 1989, she completed a Certificate Course in Advanced Clinical Nursing (Renal) granted by La Trobe University, Melbourne under the Government’s grants. She achieved her Master Degree of Science in Nursing in 2002. She becomes Renal Nurse Specialist in 1994.
Her area of interest includes quality of life of renal patients and instrument for QoL, the lived experience of patients receiving dialysis, cultural impact and illness coping, peritoneal and haemodialysis catheter care as well as advanced wound care. She has been clinical mentor for the renal nursing course run by the Hospital Authority since 1993 and visiting lecturer of the renal nursing course since 1995. She is also the core member for planning and teaching in the renal nursing course by the School of Professional and Continuing Education, Hong Kong University (SPACE, HKU) since 1996. She is an active member in the Renal Specialty
Core Group under the Hospital Authority and assisted in the publication of the “Guideline for Specialty Nursing Services (Renal Care)” in 2000; “Quality Assurance In Renal Services” together with the Hong Kong College of Physicians and HAHO, HK. In 2003; Quality Assurance In Renal Services” together with the Hong Kong College of Physicians and HAHO, HK in 2003; “Renal Patients’ Teaching Package” for the Nursing Section, HAHO, HK in 2004. She serves as the honorary tutor for the Department of Nursing Studies (HKU) since 2004 and the Medical Faculty (HKU) since 2006. She has been appointed as a member in the Education Subcommittee of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis in 2006.
She is the Founding President of the Hong Kong Association of Renal Nurses established in 2006.
