Question:

Monique Dam
from Ede nederland asked on May 08, 2014:

Zijn er richtlijnen bekend of het noodzakelijk is dat de PD katheter geflushed wordt als bekend is dat deze binnen enkele weken wordt verwijdert. Vr. gr. Monique Dam

Answers:

Expert, from (United States):
The English translation for the question is:

Are there any guidelines recommending flushing of the PD catheter if it is known that it will be removed within several weeks?

Answer:

There is no good evidence that flushing of catheter maintains patency, even if it is to be used. If it is known that it will be removed, it is probably best not to flush. What is critically important it ensure daily exit site care is done
