Questions about PD? Ask!

Question:

Carla R
from DCI asked on March 15, 2012:

At the time of PD catheter placement, is flushing until PD effluent clear the standard for (non-embedded) new PD catheters? If so, is flushing done with saline or dialysate? heparinized? should this be done by the surgeon during catheter placement?

Answers:

expert, from (UK):
It is usual practice to flush the cathter in theatre at time of insertion to check patency-saline of dialysate. There is no evidence on the use of heparin for flushing or locking the line
