I've been working on dialysis center for almost 5 years.I have 100 patients with CAPD.last week I found peritonitis case,and the culture results is staphiloccoccus aereus.my question, what is the propper antibiotic for this case,because we've given cefazolin before but it relaps.thank you

Yes, you should follow the sensitivity report. Cefazolin is good for MSSA. An initial gentamicin or aminoglycoside may help the response but once it is cleared, it may not need to be continued. For MRSA, vancoymcin is preferred. Occasionally you may see relapse even with the appropriate antibiotics. In such case, you should check if there is any tunnel infection. Biofilm formation explains many cases of relapse. Removal and replacement of a new catheter simultaneously may be needed.
